Looking good, food!

One of the key aspects of served food is the manner in which it is presented. This is because, when we eat, all our sense organs are stimulated at the same time to result in a distinctive perception of the food. Research by Nestle had found that mere images of food can subsequently affect our sensitivity andawareness of the same. As the way the food appears is the first connection that it has with the eater, the aspect of food presentation is as crucial to a dish’s success as its flavour and essence. This is because your eyes have to be tempted by the looks of a dish, such that you will want to go ahead and taste it, and embark upon a gastronomic journey with a pre-conceived favourable perception of its taste. So exactly can you assure that your food looks good to the person who is going to eat it?

Cleanliness and Appropriateness: You have to make certain that the serving dish or bowl is clean and appropriate for the food you are serving. For fun foods such as French fries or chicken nuggets for a kids’ party, you could choose a bowl with a fun, non-traditional design while for something like a biryani, you could use a bowl with a conservative design that might be reminiscent of the times of yore which is when this dish dates back to. And remember, a dirty bowl takes away from the taste of the dish, no matter how mouth-watering the flavour is.

Timing and Garnish: The way in which a dish is presented or its visual appeal is tied in many ways to the time in which it is served. Food supposed to be eaten hot should not be served cold or vice versa. The most important aspect here is to wait till the temperature of the food is just right and only then, go forth and serve it. Almost as important as when the food is served is how it is garnished. This is where the element of colour becomes important. A little bit if green thyme swimming in a bowl of creamy white soup or tiny pieces of orange carrots and red peppers beside a juicy brown steak can make all the difference by adding that extra zest to the connoisseurs’ mind even before he starts eating.

Textures and Portion size: A crucial aspect of the visual appeal of a food is the contrast of textures of the food that is served at a time. Variety is the key as the perfect combination of a hard food such as a celery with soft food such as a creamy dressing is crucial for the balance of textures on a plate. Another important aspect of how food is presented is how the size of the portion of food is matched with the size of the plate in which it is being served.  While a tiny plate will give the effect of appearing clutteredand congested when piled high with food, a plate too large with a tiny portion will appear too scant and bare.

May This Year Be Yours

Best Hotel in Gurgaon
Is the grime and grind of everyday life getting to you? Are you feeling over-strained and overworked? Does it seem like you have been postponing your ‘me-time’ forever?

If yes, then stop. Let 2014 be about you.

Let this year be not about long commutes or long hours in your cubicle, frantic calls or boring PowerPoint
presentations, elbowing your way through chaos and sinking neck-deep into gruelling work and chaos. Let this year be about the quietness and tranquillity that you desire, and the inner calm and composure that you strive to achieve.

Let 2014 be about you.

Let this year be not about having to decide the family’s menu every day, or worrying endlessly about keeping the house clean, running after your little monsters all the time, and finishing your chores by bedtime every evening. Let this year be about privacy and comfort, your own and your family’s, without you having to plan each step of the way. Let this year be about those lazy brunches you wanted to have with your friends, the quick weekend getaways, late-night movies, and luxurious spas that you had putting off all the time.

Let 2014 be about you.

Let this year be not about missed deadlines or unfinished checklists, running make-up or dishevelled hair, tired legs or shirts with missing buttons. Let this year be about productivity and relaxation, convenience and accomplishments, style and timeliness – all at the same time.

Let 2014 be about you.

Best wishes from

Hotel Crossroads

Whats happening at Hotel CrossRoads

CrossRoads Hotel
Hotel CrossRoads Gurgaon
It may seem all quiet here in the winding tree-lined road that links Hotel CrossRoads to the Highway. But a closer look will reveal that there is plenty happening in this spot of Sector 15. For starters, the hotel has been revamping itself for a few months now and the result is starting to show with its new façade. Rebuilt with beautiful teak wood, interspersed with gleaming walls of glass, the façade looks charming and chic, contemporary and warm at the same time.

As you enter the hotel and a cheerful staff greets you at the reception, the thing that instantly catches the eye is the colourful and tastefully designed lobby, washed with natural light. The rich accents of red and green on the sofas, and the lovely wall papers, along with the lovely lilting music, create a cheery atmosphere that almost instantly touches the traveller.

If you are checking in, you are in for a rich treat at the newly launched multi-cuisine restaurant, The Food Junction or TFJ. If you walk through the lobby, your nose is most certain to pick up the route to TFJ, where a lavish buffet spread has been readied and the air is thick with aromas of wonderful looking curries. From the sights and smells, one can figure out that the newly designed menu has been well thought out, featuring a nice mix of classic and modern, Indian and International, traditional and innovative. Take your pick from the delicious Broccoli ki Shammi, Mushroom Ki Galauti, the Fish Roulade; move on to signature dishes like the Chicken Cacciatora, Vegetable Ratatouille, the Gosht Nihari, the Methi Murgh Lahori, Chicken Stroganoff and finish off with sweet dishes like the delightful Rasa Malai and the Chenna Payas.

As a new kid on the block, TFJ shows of the F&B prowess of the new hotel and pleasantly surprises with its range of dishes and the richness of taste.

Banquet Halls in Gurgaon
Banquet Halls in Gurgaon
The Banquets Halls of Hotel CrossRoads is another area which does not disappoint. The high point of these banquet halls - Majestic 1&2 - is that these large open spaces are not obstructed by any pillars. The gigantic sizes of these party halls give them their names – Majestic 1 and Majestic 2. The banquet halls seats 450 people comfortably and is ideal for small and big parties, weddings, celebrations, meetings and events.

Completing the brand new F&B portfolio of Hotel Crossroads is the ambitiously planned retro-themed bar. Set for a December launch, this is set to be a showstealer with the kind of music it is set to play. Once open, this part of the town isn’t likely to remain the same.

The Hotel CrossRoads Diwali buffet- Let there be Sweet

There is a lot that is special about the festival of Diwali. The decorative lighting honing the streets, the diyas lighting the homes, the sharing and exchange of sweets from family to family, but what really captures ones imagination is the celebration of victory- the victory of good over the evil. For that one festival, good and bad are clear as black and white, and it is the good which wins, a scenario which is seldom in occurrence today.

Now, the moments we associate with Diwali are far too many to count. There are the late night card parties with friends and family. Then there is the shopping spree for new clothes, the long awaited family get-together, the kids bursting a string of firecrackers, there are far too many moments which signify Diwali in its spirit. But what we arguably associate most with Diwali has something to do with our sweet tooth. Yes, you guessed it right. Diwali in its true spirit has to be associated with SWEETS.

Sweets. The endless amount of sweets which we have on Diwali, would put a year’s amount of sweet consumption to shame. But it’s Diwali, and it is all allowed for that one festival. The boxes of sweet we exchange with our neighbors and our relatives, the amount of sweets which gets collected, it all equals a neighborhood sweet shop right in our kitchen. So, when sweet consumption highlights this awesome festival, why not ring in the celebrations at Hotel CrossRoads in true Diwali spirit with a host of amazing Diwali sweets.

Here, at TFJ, our chefs will bring to you a range of delectable sweetmeats everyday along with our special TFJ Diwali buffet. To make the deal even sweeter, the buffet comes at a 30 % discount on weekdays and increases to a walloping 50 % off on the weekends.

So, this Diwali just say only one thing. Let there be sweet. : )
